                    ABRAHAM THE SEPARATED ONE

ABRAHAM No.2.

Genesis. 13:1-18

I. THE RESTORATION OF ABRAHAM. v.1-4

v.1. Abraham went up out of Egypt
     1. went up
     2. Egypt = World, Pig-pen.

v.2. Abraham was very rich
     1. the devil couldn't complain he served because of riches
     2. Abraham despised riches
     3. Abraham had stars in his eyes

v.3. Went on his journey ....to Bethel
     1. "He restoreth my soul...Leads me in paths of
     righteousness for His names sake"
     2. All Christians get out of the will of God sometimes.
          a. Moses spent 40 years in Midian
          b. David defiled himself
          c. Jonah ran away
          d. Peter denied the Lord
          e. Thomas doubted

v.4. Place of an altar, which he had made at first.
     1. Rev. 2:5. Remember from where you have fallen, repent and
     do first works.

v.4. Abraham called on the name of the Lord
     1. It is certain Abraham didn't know the Lord. Ex. 6:3.
     2. God does not reward us according to our intelligence but
     according to faith.

II. THE IMPOSSIBLE RELATIONSHIP. v.5-7.

v.5. and Lot also had flocks.
     1. Abraham had flocks but the flocks didn't have him.
     2. Lot is father of MEAN-MINDED, CLOSE-FISTED, MONEY-HUNGRY
     mob. His story is one of sadness and loss. He was saved yet
     by fire. 1 Cor. 3:15.

v.6. The land was not able to bear them.
     1. Abraham applies N.T. teaching. Phil. 2:4. RSV.

v.6. Dwell together.
     1. only so many sheep can graze to an acre.
     2. The separation that should have taken place in Ur now
     takes place.
     3. Teaching PUT GOD BEFORE FLESH AND BLOOD.

v.7.There was strife between the herdsmen.
     1. Lot's meanness was communicated to his servants.

NOTE.1. the land was promised to Abraham, Lot was there by grace.

NOTE.2. These are the first verses in the Bible to mention
     wealth; therefore they set a precedent.
     If riches are honestly obtained, held as belonging to God
     and used by us His stewards, they are right.
     Lots riches were an occasion to strife.

v.7. Canaanite and Perizzite.
     It is sad when the world observes and knows differences
     between Christians. Many will never listen to believers
     because of what some believers are.

     1. Canaanite. Trafficker.- To be brought low.
     2. Perizzite. Unprotected dwelling place.
          bent on destroying defences.

III. THE REACTION OF THE REDEEMED. v.8-9.

v.8. let there be no strife.
     1. the beginning of strife is like the letting out of water;
     so quit before the quarrel breaks out. Prov. 17:14. RSV.

v.9. is not the whole land before thee?
     If thou take the left I will take the right,
     1. Abraham was walking with God .
        Lot was walking with Abraham.
     2. Abraham responds as a spiritual man.
        Lot responds as a natural man.
     3. Lot means "VEIL" with the separation Abraham sees clearly,

IV. THE RETROVISION OF LOT. v.10-13

v.10. lot lifted up his eyes.
     1. Eyes are the binoculars of the heart.
     2. Well Watered.. the things which are seen are temporal.
     Jesus said he who believes in Me out of his belly shall
     flow rivers of living water. Jn. 7:38
     3. Like the land of Egypt.
     - be careful where you take your Children.
     - Keep them pure and innocent.
     - Banks only use real money for training not counterfeit.
     4.Paul complains of Lot-like People. 1 Cor. 3:1-3. RSV.

v.11. Lot chose the plain.
     1. Natural man sees grass for the bellies of his cattle
        Natural man overlooks the sinfulness of sin.
        - little regard for the interest of his soul.

v.12. Lot pitched his tent toward Sodom.
     1. one step away from God leads to another and another.

v.13. sinners before the Lord.
     1. David destroyed  = the Virtue of Bathsheba,
                         = the life of Uriah
                         = the lives of his soldiers
                         = the dignity of his throne
     When he repented he cried to God. " Against you only have
     I sinned. and done this evil in thy sight." Ps.51:4.

V. REVISED REVELATION. v.14-18

v.14. The Lord said unto Abraham.
     1. There are things God will never say to the natural man.
     2. There are things God won't say to the spiritual man who is
     plagued with strife and fightings.
     3. Look to the place where thou art.- the place of separation
     becomes a place of vision.

v.15. For ALL the land thou seest ....will I give.
     1. first the promise is ours then it is passed on to our
     children.

v.16. As the dust of the Earth.
     1. Physical descendants.
     2. God's promise will come to pass. The whole earth will
     travail. Rom. 8:22.

v.17. Arise walk through the land. (APPROPRIATION)
     1. Abraham had right to title but when he walked around an
     acre he possessed an acre, it was his to the measure of
     occupation.

VI. RESIDENCE AND RELATIONSHIP. v.18.

v.18. Abraham dwelt in ..... Mamre......Hebron.
     1. Mamre = Vision or Fatness.
     2. Hebron  = Joined-together, Communion.
Bethel had an altar (dwelling place of God) now he has more today
than yesterday and less today than tomorrow.

"The path of the just is a dawning light that shineth more and
more unto the perfect day."
